South Carlsbad State Beach

South Carlsbad State Beach stretches from La Costa Avenue to Palomar Airport Road and includes a popular 220 site camping area (make reservations far in advance) and two day use areas. Beach areas within the South Carlsbad State Beach include the North Ponto and South Ponto beaches and Terramar beach. The South Ponto beach has restrooms and showers and paid parking.

Park Information
This San Diego beach features swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing and picnicking. The large bluff-top campground is very popular, especially in summer. Stairs lead to the beach.

A camp store located near the campground entrance operates March through October and provides all the amenities a camper may need including some RV supplies, boogie boards, firewood, and fishing gear.

Service Reductions
California State Parks is implementing service reductions in order to meet Department budget cuts this fiscal year. Service reductions implemented Fall 2009 through Summer 2010 include one “loop” of the campground closed October 2009 – February 2010, day-use parking at South Ponto by automatic pay machine only, facilities maintenance reduced 50%, including trash cleanup, and reduced lifeguard service. Visitors are encouraged to ‘Pack it in, Pack it out’, so the beach remains free of trash. These service reductions are designed to ensure that California State Parks achieve cost savings, minimize disruption to visitors as much as possible, and maintain revenue at the highest level possible.

Location-Directions
The beach is located 3 miles south of Carlsbad on CARLSBAD BLVD.
Take INTERSTATE 5, exit POINSETTIA LN.
Go west to CARLSBAD BLVD. Turn Right (north) onto CARLSBAD BLVD.
Make a legal U-Turn at Breakwater Rd. (First Light).
Drive SOUTH on CARLSBAD BLVD. Continue to campground entrance on right.

Wi-Fi Service
South Carlsbad State Beach now offers AT&T Wi-Fi Service! (no fee to current ATT customers) This service enables park visitors with wireless enabled laptop computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs) to access the Internet. You can access this service if you are within a 150 foot range of the Lifeguard Headquarters located in the Park.
